Pedagogical master-degree study programme
The study programme is carried out in collaboration with UP PEF (Faculty of Education).
The main objective of the study programme is to train 1st level graduates of a non-pedagogical study programme in Italian Studies or a related study programme to independently perform professional work in education. The study programme also offers to students the possibility to deepen knowledge and skills in the field of language teaching at all levels of teaching and learning. Postgraduate study programmes in this field are designed to include the individual research work of students which is directed towards theoretical and practical issues concerning education, training and teaching.
The study programme is interdisciplinary for it is linked to both, education and training sciences (in parallel) as well as disciplinary knowledge of language and literature (in succession). Both areas contribute to the creation of the profile of a teacher of Italian language for different levels of education and teaching related activities (counselling, monitoring and class management). It enables students to acquire the appropriate linguistic and pedagogical knowledge by studying theoretical and methodological concepts of Italian as a foreign and second language, Italian literature in Italy and in the world and intercultural communication.
Having the basic knowledge of pedagogical work and related sciences enables them to teach Italian at an early stage in elementary schools, or adult education.
Among the most important objectives of this study programme is encouraging students to continue their study interruptedly up to the doctorate (PhD).
Employability
Graduates of 2nd level Italian Studies (Pedagogical programme) are equipped with fundamental knowledge of the profession as well as with methodological approaches and orientation towards the pedagogical profession. They are also qualified for work in research institutions and as assistants in different research or applicative projects.
They have the possibility to be employed in environments where is requested a wide range of knowledge concerning social and cultural problems, phenomena and processes taking place locally, nationally and internationally. The possibility of choosing a great variety of interdisciplinary elective courses during the study enables them to coordinate social activities, cultural and educational institutions. They can be employed as teachers in elementary and secondary schools, teachers in institutions and companies dealing with educational programmes and teacher training, as curators-pedagogues in museums, galleries and other organizations and coordinators of cultural and tourist programs with an emphasis on didactic content, as organizers of adult education in educational institutions, as teachers for extracurricular activities, moderators, tourist animators, staff in national and international institutions, translators, reviewers, proofreaders.
Master (MA) in Teaching Italian (Professor of the Italian Language)
Master`s, second cycle, full-time study
Duration: 2 Years / 120 ECTS
0114 Teacher training with subject specialisation
Admission to the first year of study shall be granted to the candidates who have completed:
a) a first cycle study programme in the field of Italian studies or Italian translation studies, carrying 240 ECTS credit points;
b) a first cycle study programme in the field of Italian studies or Italian translation studies, carrying 180 ECTS credit points, provided that a candidate has completed all the study obligations relevant for further study prior to enrolment. Study obligations carrying 60 ECTS are defined by the relevant Faculty Commission based on documentation, provided by the candidate and taking into consideration the type of studies previously completed. The candidate can fulfil the obligations within the first cycle of studies, within continuing professional development courses, or any other type of formal education and/or exams. Candidate must fulfil the obligations prior to enrolment into the master’s study programme;
c) a first cycle study programme in other fields of study, carrying 240 ECTS, provided that a candidate has completed all the study obligations relevant for further study prior to enrolment. Study obligations carrying up to 60 ECTS are defined by the relevant Faculty Commission based on documentation, provided by the candidate and taking into consideration the type of studies previously completed. The candidate can fulfil the obligations within the first cycle studies, within continuing professional development courses, or any other type of formal education and/or exams. Candidate must fulfil the obligations prior to enrolment into the master’s study programme;
d) an academic study programme (pre-reform study programme, adopted before 11 June 2004) in the field of Italian studies (or corresponding programme of study in the field of linguistics), provided that a candidate has completed all the study obligations relevant for further study prior to enrolment. Study obligations carrying up to 60 ECTS are defined by the relevant Faculty Commission based on documentation, provided by the candidate and taking into consideration the type of studies previously completed. The candidate can fulfil the obligations within the first cycle studies, within continuing professional development courses, or any other type of formal education and/or exams. Candidate must fulfil the obligations prior to enrolment into the master’s study programme. Candidate must also be able to prove previous knowledge and competences in Italian with literature, intercultural communication and didactics of Italian language;
e) an academic study programme (pre-reform study programme, adopted before 11 June 2004) in other fields of study, provided that a candidate has completed all the study obligations relevant for further study prior to enrolment. Study obligations carrying up to 60 ECTS are defined by the relevant Faculty Commission based on documentation, provided by the candidate and taking into consideration the type of studies previously completed. Candidate can fulfil the obligations within the first cycle studies, within continuing professional development courses, or any other type of formal education and/or exams. Candidate must fulfil the obligations prior to enrolment into the master’s study programme;
f) a comparable education abroad and have been, in the process of recognition of their qualification and in accordance with Assessment and Recognition of Education Act, legally granted the right to continue their studies in the study programme.
In Case of Enrolment Limitation
the candidates are selected according to their average grade obtained in the first cycle / undergraduate studies.
