Slovene Studies
Pedagogical master-degree study programme
The study programme is carried out in collaboration with UP PEF (Faculty of Education).
Master’s major study of Slovenian Studies with education track is based on the needs of theoretical expertise and application of linguistic and literary knowledge from the past and present developments and the state of the Slovenian language. Other knowledge includes linguistic theories of the 20th century, the confrontation of the Slovenian language with Slavic, Romance and Germanic linguistic phenomena as well as world literature from the beginnings to the present together with literary theory. In this regard, students discuss in detail the linguistic, literary and other cultural specifics of Slovenian border and cultural-contact areas with a particular emphasis on the area between the Alps and the Adriatic, as well as some key elements of Slovenian culture from historical, geographical and anthropological cultural aspects, even in comparison with other cultures.
The study programme provides in-depth knowledge and assimilation of basic as well as special pedagogical and educational knowledge and skills necessary for teaching Slovenian language and literature in all types and levels of elementary and secondary schools. This knowledge is presented both from theoretical and practical point of view; the first in the form of lectures, the other in the form of seminars and, above all, study practice, which students perform at primary and secondary schools through hospitations and independent classes. Masters of Arts also possess all the necessary psychological, pedagogical and educational skills competences for the implementation of contemporary teaching of Slovenian language and literature, in addition to the professional and theoretical knowledge that is the basis for independent research work and for possible continuation of studies at level 3.
Employment opportunities
Masters of Arts of the Slovenian studies programme gain in-depth knowledge of both fundamental elements of the specialization and its methodological approaches and orientations. They are trained for work in elementary and secondary schools, as well as in research institutions and for assistant work in various research and applied projects.
Work opportunities are also available in all those environments where a wide range of knowledge and knowledge of social and cultural problems, phenomena and processes are needed locally, nationally and internationally. They also train them to work in public relations, to coordinate cultural and tourist activities where they are able to integrate their heritage into the tourist offer and design new tourist products, and in the professions of the media and creative industries.
