Slovene Studies
Single-discipline undergraduate (Bachelor`s degree) study programme
For foreign students (i.e. non-native speakers) the programme is specifically adapted to provide a gradual learning from basic Slovenian language and courses to a more specific ones. It also provides aditional courses in Slovenian language. Foreign students can prolong their first year of study for the purpose of learning Slovenian language, the so-called “Leto plus” (The Year +).
In the study programme, which takes place in the form of lectures, tutorials and seminars, students acquire a general Slovenian studies education in the field of language, Slovenian and world literatures. They develop critical thinking, independent work, and are educated for proofreading, teaching Slovenian language for foreigners, editorial work, creating press releases, etc.
The study also offers courses in learning the Didactics of Slovenian as a second/foreign language to provide skills in teaching Slovenian.
The graduates will be able to act as text writers, moderators, proofreaders, journalists, editors or designers of printed materials and teachers of Slovenian language for foreigners in:
- newspaper, television and radio editorial offices
- publishing, advertising agencies, cultural institutions (e.g. theaters, libraries …),
- tourism and other business branches,
- Language schools.
Graduates are able to continue their studies at the master’s degree (second level) programme of Slovenian studies with the education track.

Bachelor (BA) in slovene studies
Single-discipline undergraduate programme, full-time study
Available modules: »module for native speakers« and »module for foreign speakers«. When applying, the candidate chooses one of the modules.
Duration: 3 Years / 180 ECTS
0232 Literature and linguistics
Admission to the first year of study programme Slovene Studies shall be granted to the candidates who have:
a) passed the general matura examination;
b) passed the vocational matura in one of the four-year secondary-school programmes that is
classified in:
– KLASIUS-P-16 classification: broad area 02; or
– FORD classification: area 6; or
– ARRS classification: area 6; or
– CERIF classification: area H;
and also passed a final examination in one of the general matura subjects: English, French, Greek, Italian, Latin, German, Russian, Sociology, Philosophy, History, Geography, Psychology, Slovene as a second language (high school with Italian as a language of instruction in the ethnically mixed area of Slovenian Istria); the selected subject cannot be the same as the subject passed in the framework of the vocational matura;
c) successfully completed any four-year secondary-school programme before 1 June 1995.
In Case of Enrolment Limitation
the candidates under a) and c) are selected according to:
– overall performance in the general matura or final exam respectively: 70 % of points awarded,
– overall performance in secondary grades 3 and 4: 30 % of points awarded.
the candidates under b) above are selected according to:
– overall performance in the vocational matura: 40 % of points awarded,
– overall performance in secondary grades 3 and 4: 30 % of points awarded,
– the performance in the selected general matura subject: 30 % of points awarded.
