The lecture will discuss how global warming, climate change and environmental pollution are treated in the media and how to create reliable information for the public with critical insight. The topic of the lecture also focuses on how to encourage students, academics, relevant institutions and organisations to think in a solution-oriented way.
In this context, emphasis will be placed on the following:
- Gathering the necessary information and skills to write accurate climate news
- Ability to analyse information on natural disasters
- How to Detect Manipulation and Misinformation on Climate News
- Be able to write and give accurate, realistic and reliable information
- Increasing interest in climate news analysis at the student and academic level
Abdulkadir GOLCU is Associate Professor at the Department of Journalism, Faculty of Communication, Selcuk University, Konya, Turkey. Her pedagogical and research work focuses on thematic areas dealing with culture of democracy, political history of Turkish media, hate speech, discourse studies and climate literacy. He has completed two Erasmus KA2 projects. In recent years, she has focused her research on climate literacy, especially in connection with applied journalism.
