On 20 and 21 December 2023, the Dean of the UP FHŠ and chairholder of the UNESCO Chairfor Interpretation and Education for the Promotion of Integrated Approaches to Heritage, Prof. Dr. Irena Lazar, and the Vice-Dean for International Cooperation, Zrinka Mileusnić, attended the second colloquium of heritage scholars from Slovenia and Egypt, which was held in Cairo and was organised by Prof. Dr. Abdelrazek Elnaggar (University of Ljubljana and Ain Shams University Cairo).

On 20 December 2023, at the premises of the Egyptian Research Agency, Representatives of the Slovenian Hub of the European Research Infrastructure for Heritage Science met with the Director, Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Sakr, two former Ministers of Science and of Heritage, and a whole range of eminent scientists and representatives of universities and other public organizations. At the colloquium, we presented, among other things, the research infrastructure and ongoing activities within the framework of heritage science, whereby for UP we particularly highlighted the capacities of our laboratories, the hub of the New European Bauhaus, and the activities of the UNESCO Chair in Interpretation and Education for the Promotion of Integrated Approaches to Heritage.

On 21 December 2023, we visited the Conservation Centre at the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), which is still awaiting the official opening of its collections. We were welcomed by the Director of the GEM and the Director of the Conservation Centre, Dr. Hussein Kamal. The latter then showed us around the modern workshops of the Centre, where we saw, among other things, the never-before-displayed jewelry from Tutankhamun’s tomb, which will become a part of the GEM’s permanent exhibition. The Grand Egyptian Museum impressed us with its magnificent architecture and the staircase of the Egyptian pharaohs.

The next meeting of heritage scientists from Egypt and Slovenia will take place in November 2024 at the University of Primorska, and will be organized by UP FHŠ and the UNESCO Chair.
