Study presentation
The Communication and Media study programme represents an advanced and coherent continuation of first‑cycle studies. It builds upon the theoretical and methodological foundations of communication science while retaining a strong focus on the humanities, social sciences and technological studies. The programme integrates theoretical perspectives with practical expertise, ensuring that conceptual knowledge is systematically complemented by applied skills.
Within the framework of the programme, particular emphasis is placed on employability in the labour market. This focus reflects the current situation in the media sector, which is largely shaped by the ongoing crisis of traditional media industries. This crisis is evident in the decline of legacy media, diminishing public trust in journalism, the erosion of permanent employment opportunities, and the growing demand for new knowledge, competencies and creative approaches in media practice. The transition from classical mass media (print, radio and television) to new technological media (web platforms, social networks, participatory and DIY communities, and similar environments) necessitates the introduction of new, content‑oriented fields of study. These fields both broaden the concept of the medium and emphasise hands‑on, practice‑based work. The aim of the study programme is to provide students with the knowledge and practical skills required to operate independently and successfully in the field of communication and media under rapidly changing conditions.
At the same time, the programme places strong emphasis on the critical examination of communication in contemporary society and its role in understanding, interpreting and constructing social reality. It is designed not only to prepare students for theoretical and practical professional work in the media sector, but also to foster their personal development and, crucially, to support the formation of autonomous, critically minded individuals.
