As part of the project Disaster Journalism: Preventing the News from Turning into a Disaster (Erasmus+ EU Project, 2024–2026), led by Selçuk University in Konya (Türkiye), we are organising the first awareness event for students and the general public.

Thursday, 20 November 2025, at 10:30, Lecture Room Maestral 3, Faculty of Humanities, University of Primorska

When nature shows its force or war divides families, humanitarian organisations are among the first to respond — and among those whom affected populations can rely on. As key institutional actors at the local, national, and international levels, humanitarian organisations are often the first to respond to disasters by providing emergency assistance, and the last to leave, ensuring long-term recovery and mitigation programs. One of these organisations is the Red Cross, recognised as the leading international humanitarian organisation in the world. The awareness event will particularly highlight the Slovenian branch of this organisation — the Red Cross of Slovenia, which operates throughout the Republic of Slovenia. Its activities and the challenges it faces will be presented.
