As part of the project Disaster Journalism: Preventing the News from Turning into a Disaster (Erasmus+ EU project, 2024–2026), coordinated by Selçuk University in Konya (Türkiye), we are organising the fourth awareness-raising event, intended for students and the general public.
When societies are affected by natural disasters or other emergency situations, key governmental and state institutions of national importance play a crucial role in protection, rescue, and the coordination of emergency responses. Their responsibilities extend beyond the operational management of protection and rescue activities to include the provision of clear, timely, and trustworthy public communication, which is essential for preventing panic, limiting the spread of disinformation, and ensuring effective public cooperation.
The event will present the role of the Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Protection and Rescue as the central state institution responsible for protection and rescue in cases of disasters in Slovenia. The guest speaker will present the organisation’s work in crisis situations, coordination mechanisms among different services, cooperation with the media, and the importance of strategic and responsible public communication during emergencies. Special attention will be given to the challenges of public information management, as well as to the importance of trust, professionalism, and transparency in times of crisis.
The event will offer valuable insight into the institutional dimension of crisis management and will complement the understanding of the roles of media, humanitarian, and non-governmental organisations addressed in previous events.
