On Friday, 7 February 2025, the Slovenian UNESCO Chairs met for the first time at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Primorska. The Faculty, which is being the holder of The UNESCO Chair in Interpretation and Education for Enhancing Integrated Heritage Approaches for four years now, hosted representatives of the UNESCO Centre for Karst Studies at the University of Nova Gorica and ZRC SAZU, the UNESCO Chair on Water-related Disaster Risk Reduction at the University of Ljubljana, the UNESCO Chair on Open Technologies for Open Educational Resources and Open Learning at the Jožef Stefan Institute and the UNESCO Chair on Teacher Education for Sustainable Development at the University of Ljubljana, joined by a representative of the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture from Venice.
On Friday, 7 February, the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Primorska hosted the first meeting of Slovenian UNESCO Chairs, which work in various fields of science and education. After the opening greetings of the Rector of the University of Primorska, Prof. Klavdija Kutnar, President of Slovenian National Commission for UNESCO, Prof. Irena Mlinarič Raščan, the Dean of the UP Faculty of Humanities and the chairholder of the UNESCO Chair at UP FHŠ, Prof. Irena Lazar, and the representative of the UNESCO Venice Office, Dr. Samuel Partey, the participants of the conference presented the selected projects and the results of their work.
The representatives of the Slovenian UNESCO Chairs expressed their wish to make such meetings permanent, as they contribute to the further development and visibility of UNESCO programmes in Slovenia and the importance of Chairs’ involvement in international research streams. At the end of the conference, the participants agreed that the next meeting of Slovenian UNESCO Chairs will take place in June this year.
