On the Waves of Knowledge (Na valovih znanja) is a supplement to two regional newspapers – Primorske novice and Primorski dnevnik, that is dedicated to the research challenges of the common coastal area. The article encompasses a brief overview of the activities and achievements of the UNESCO Chair at UP FHŠ; talks about specific objectives of the Chair, its development through the years and the innovative approaches to education and research focused on cultural and natural heritage, which were realized in practice after the establishment of the Chair. Among other things the account talks about the importance of Heritage as a category in our time: “Heritage only in the last decade has found its way and its place in International and European research strategies and policies, as well as in development and research programmes and calls for proposals. This is partly followed by national strategies, e.g. in the case of tourism…”
